Tips for Solar Installations

|

Having solar panels installed on your roof can help you save considerable money on your energy bills. When you arrange to have solar installation done, itandrsquo;s important to make sure your roof is prepared for it before the technicians arrive. Use the following tips to help you get your roof ready for solar panels.

Make Sure Your Roof Can Support Solar Panels

Solar panels can put a lot of strain on your roof if itandrsquo;s not study enough to support them. Have a certified energy professional check your roof to see if it is strong enough for solar installation. You might need to have your roof reinforced if it's not currently strong enough for solar panels.

Schedule a Roof Inspection

Solar panels need to be installed on a roof that is in good condition. Your roof should be able to last as long as your new solar panels, which normally last for up to 25 years. Have your roof inspected for damage, leaks and other problems that will need to be fixed prior to installation. Keep in mind that you might need to have a new roof installed if yours is in bad shape.

Trim Your Trees

If you have trees around your home, make sure that none of the branches will interfere with installation or prevent your solar panels from absorbing sunlight. Trim away any branches that are hanging over your roof or shading the areas where your solar panels will be installed.

Relocate Roof Fittings

Check the location of your roof vents and any other fittings you have up there, such as a satellite dish or antennas. These fittings will need to be relocated if they are in the area where your solar panels are being installed. Keep in mind that you might need to hire professional contractors to handle this task, depending on your local building codes.
